This place was recommended as a wine bar stop, but we decided to try dinner. Not a good idea! The place is an eclectic mix of Asian and French. Didn't get it. A bit tricky to find. It's on the second floor above a small market with nothing more than a small sign and the door indicating its location. It's clean and quaint and functional. No frills. Our waiter was attentive and thorough. A bit snarky though when I asked for a wine suggestion to go with our meal. His reply was that "food and wine parings went out in the 80's". Our first course, the recommended, warm banana soup, was terrific. It was the right amount of heat and sweet. A very unique combination that worked well, that I would highly recommend. It went south from there. We had been looking forward to having muscles, and where excited to see them on the menu. Offered in 1/2 or 1lb servings, we thankfully opted for the smaller serving. The muscle were not fresh and tasted too fishy. The red spicy creamy sauce didn't work either. A big disappointment. We had the bang bang chicken entree next. This is the signature item for Helsinki. Thought a sure bet. Not!!. Too spicy and soggy. I like spice. It was more so the soggy wilted texture that turned us off. Mushy and un appealing. The veggies were over cooked and WAY too much peanut sauce. We didn't even finish it. We rate this at 3 stars only because of the banana soup. Otherwise it would get only 2 stars. No interest in going back for a second chance for dinner. Sticking to the wine only.

We LOVE Mr. Helsinki! I was really surprised that there were any bad reviews. We've been going to Fish Creek, Door County for a week every year for the last 10 years and discovered Mr. Helsinki a couple years ago. We usually go around 5:30PM to beat the crowds. We love the atmosphere and the service is wonderful! We usually start with their extensive wine list and have never been disappointed. I ALWAYS get the Bang Bang Chicken and absolutely LOVE it. My only suggestion would be to go heavier on the chicken and lighter on the Boy Choy. If you go to Mr. Helsinkis you absolutely have to get the Bananas Foster- it is unbelievable. We would highly recommend Mr. Helsinkis if you are in Door County. It is our favorite place to eat.

Particularly awful experience. We were basically ignored my the pretentious woman behind the bar, who clearly assumed we'd never had a glass of wine in our lives. She suggested we try a wine "we" might like, because her palette was different - so she said. She should have had a pipette as she literally put 3 drops of a sweet white wine in our glass. We ordered two glasses and were then flat out ignored. We were the only people there, and had to ask for the check three times. I've never felt more uncomfortable in a wine bar. Ever. Awful. One star. Will not be back.

Here's what's to love at this restaurant: the waitress whose aura is a ten, the décor with art featuring local artists and the comfortable stylish room. The wine list is bountiful. I had the special for the evening, crab Rangoon. Passable, the 'skin' was doughy, not crisp in any sense. For the main course, I went with the Bang Bang chicken. It was only one bang. I had the feeling that the recipe had gotten tired. The chicken was a tad dry, the sauce a bit thick. My partner went with the Thai Spinach soup and hoisin duck entrée (gluten free--rice and not crepe). She loved both!

One of the best hidden secrets Fish Creek has to offer! My husband ordered the crawfish dinner crepe and I had the beef in pad Thai sauce. Both were delicious! The wine was fantastic. it is a small venue but well worth the wait!

We came late one night for dessert and were not disappointed! All six of us ordered the dessert crepes, mainly the bananas foster and nutella. Wow!! Packed with flavor! Very delicious but RICH! Loved my bananas foster with Malibu Moos custard on top! Service was pretty good. Atmosphere nice but didn't blow me away. I've heard their savory dishes are fantastic so we'll come back and try those!

Service was terrible. Food was pretty good, but we were so annoyed after waiting for an hour and 20 minutes (they told us it would be 45-60) it put a bad taste in our mouths from the get-go. After the long wait, the owner was so rude and barely apologized and when we didn't respond with smiles on our faces he looked at us with disgust and took us to our table without another word (we didn't say a single word about being mad, didn't complain, just weren't obviously happy). THEN, going into reminding ourselves it's not the waiter's fault and to not take it out on her, it took another 10 minutes for someone to even come over to give us water/do specials/take drink orders. She was so incredibly rude and unfriendly when we had not only just waited for an hour and 20, but were about to spend a lot of money at an expensive restaurant. Very disappointed in the service. At a restaurant of this level and price, the service and congeniality should have been 100 times what it was. Ruined the experience, frankly.

Lovely wine bar, very creative menu. I had the Thai Spinach soup, with some spice and a little mint in the background. I also had the Bang Bang Chicken, with a spicy peanut sauce. Both were delicious. Great atmosphere and friendly service too. Prices are fair, especially for the wines. Wold definitely come back!

Pretty nice meal. Inventive marriage of Scandinavian, Asian and Cajun flavors. About 85% of the menu is described as "hot". I had the tuna and it was excellent; my date had the Cajun crepes and had to add salt. While it's a good sign that the locals love the place, our service suffered a bit because of it. Our appetizer took 30 minutes to come to the table...most likely because our server chatted with the people at the neighboring tables for a while. I would go back, but next time I will make sure I am not famished when I get there. Arrived at 7, seated at 7:40, ate at 8:15...

I'm giving Mr Helsinki 5 stars because I believe it is probably the most innovative restaurant in Door County, and also has great food and friendly staff. My boyfriend and I went on a weekend 'getaway' from Chicago last weekend, and were lucky enough to be advised to dine here. Located above a small grocery store, this place really does open *at five*. We went right up, and were happy to see how cute the restaurant was. With dark wood, cozy lighting, and paintings adorning the walls, as well as a separate area for the 'wine bar' and little restaurant, this place was just very cute. We had a bottle of 'Murphey's Law' wine from Washington State, which was actually very good. They bring out chili flavored butter with some bread, which my boyfriend liked a lot. For appetizers we got the lemongrass crabcakes and the escargot. The lemongrass crabcakes were very good, but for me, seemed to suffer by being a bit too thin. They were tasty, however the wasabi mayo could have used a bit more kick ;) The escargot was amazing. Sauteed in a Thai coconut-curry sauce and wrapped in a small crépe, these little guys were so tasty! The sauce was creamy and each bite was decadent and delicious! We also ordered the Thai spinach soup, and while I was actually expecting something completely different - leafy greens not ground up for starters (though it did say 'pureed' on the menu, duh!) - we both really loved the hot sauce that was in it, as it added a really interesting element to the already fun flavor combinations of lemongrass, ginger and Coconut milk. For the main course, we ordered the 'special crepe of the day' which was filled with chicken, asparagus, sweet peppers, onions, asiago cheese, and mushrooms, and covered with another flavorful green sauce. At this point I was pretty full, but the crepe was expertly made, and I loved how it came with slices of grilled potatoes, and house made coleslaw. They also kept us in ample supply of sriracha for making things hotter. Thanks Mr Helsinki!! :)

This is the best restaurant in Fish Creek. Their food is absolutely amazing. Try their muscles as an appetizer. The sauce they are served in is awesome! There is a really great selection of wines to choose from as well. They have wines from all over the world. The wait staff is also very helpful in helping you select the perfect wine for your meal.

Annually we spend a week in Door County...and annually we eat 2 or 3 dinners at our favorite restaurant, Mr. Helsinki. No other restaurant can provide such flavorful diversity. We've had nearly everything on the menu and the dishes always amaze us. Plus, Chris has a fantastic wine selection. A must visit for a foodie! See you in a few days Chris!

This is probably one of my favorite places to some in door County. The food here is always a little different and you can tell that they tried to blend foods the most chefs don't think of. The food is always a successful meal. If you're looking for something a little bit different and you like to try new foods, I would definitely check out the menu and consider coming here.

Was back in Door Co this summer and ate here again. Have to downgrade for a few reasons. First, the menu has hardly changed (if at all) in years. I like some of their offerings but honestly, I'd like to see something new each year when I go. It's hard for me to believe that any restaurant would keep their menu so similar for so long. Also, they gave me a really hard time when I called to downsize our reservation for a Friday night (a few guests couldn't make it). It was a little last-minute (I think the day before), but the woman who answered the phone acted all huffy and put out. Lastly, the dining scene has improved in the last few years and this restaurant isn't holding up to places like the Wickman House. I won't be making dinner here a priority the next time I'm in the area.

This is a fantastic jewel of a restaurant for Door County or anywhere, really! Vibrantly flavored, unique takes on a range of dishes, all with a pan-Asian flair. Top quality ingredients and scratch-made sauces really distinguish this place. Also the dessert crepes are delicious!

I am surprised by the high rating of this establishment. My husband and I went there last spring. We had eaten at all the local spots and really enjoyed the comfort food the entire weekend. We went to Mr Helsinki to change it up. Boy, was that a mistake... First and foremost, the menu is a mess. There is no theme. Are they an Asian restaurant, burger joint, or French creperie? Who knows? I have heard of French Asian Fusion, but I don't think this is what they had in mind. We started with the Swiss Fondue. The chef was very heavy handed on the nutmeg as that was all you could taste. I could have spooned nutmeg directly onto my tongue and it would have tasted similar to the fondue. My husband had a burger. He can't remember which one, so obviously not worth mentioning as it was completely forgettable. My entree on the other hand was not forgettable. I had the Bang Bang Chicken, which is supposed to be there signature dish. It tasted like peanuts, peanuts and more peanuts. If I wanted to chew on only peanuts, I would have stayed at the bar next door. We are going back to Door County again soon, but will definitely not be dining at this restaurant. Such a disappointment!

What a place to kick-off cocktail hour while on vacation! After celebrating day 2 of our annual trip to Door County, my husband and I decided to head off on our own--after an afternoon spent with family--to unwind and sip vino. We met a darling bartendress, Amanda, who introduced us to a very, very sippable Sangiovese blend, and we had a great Pinot from Paso Robles to follow it up. In addition to a nice start to the evening, we had a delicious plate of baguette slices and a spicy pimento cheese spread. The spread and bread may have been complimentary, but so was the fabulous service. We will be back to this quaint 2nd floor stop in downtown Fish Creek, and try one of the "famous" dinner crepes. Crepes, especially quality ones, are hard to come by. I am hoping that a place that highlights such a dish really excels at it. I have very high hopes. If the food stands parallel to the service, then I expect it will be nothing short of marvelous!

Disappointing. Felt like a waste of my time and money. I was really looking forward to trying out Mr. Helsinki, which was to be our "nice" dinner out on our weekend in Door County, however my husband and I left feeling disappointed. We figured six five star reviews on Yelp was something to try out, especially since this site has led me to a number of gems, including Parador in Egg Harbor the night before. Little did I know that Yelp automatically filters out reviews from people who don't review much, which I discovered after the fact and found the one star review for this place was hidden and not included in the ratings. The menu feels like it has an identity crisis: fondue, burgers, Asian, and crepes. The things we ordered were underwhelming and severely overpriced for what we got (for example, $20 for a small pot of fondue with a small plate with veggies and a handful of bread). The Bang Bang Chicken sauce was too spicy and overwhelmed every other flavor on the plate. The crepe was nothing special and far too heavy. The service was also unimpressive, especially for such a small and intimate space. We will not be returning on our next trip.

Every year we go up to Door County we try at least one new place to eat. Some are good and some not so good. Mr Helsinki's is great! Its a wine bar and they also serve a couple of beers on tap. The food has an asian flare to it and the dishes have a good kick to them. First, the serving staff was friendly and inviting. Their advice was spot on. I started with the spinach soup which is spicy. The bread is served with a spicy spread. Mind you my wife is not into spicy food so we felt we were taking a big gamble coming here in the first place. She had the Alaskan Salmon. It's served with a mild curry mix of flavors and my wife couldn't get enough. She said the flavor combo was not too spicy but made you want to keep eating. I had the Bang Bang Chicken. If you like chicken, vegetables, and spicy peanut sauce... or the Bang Bang Chicken. Rarely do I see someone offer a spicy peanut sauce that is so spot on that I actually eat slower to savor each bite. My wife had wine and I had a couple of Guinness which was cold and refreshing.

Yep, as of now is the place to go in Door County for an upscale dining experience. Food is exceptional and service is great. Mr Helsinki feels like an urban, hip restaurant (owner is from Chicago), with cool modern decor including an open kitchen, eclectic/fusion menu, and contemporary wine list. It's a relatively small space, perhaps 10 tables. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Very professional and polished staff, and the owner seems to always be there and conversing with customers. We were there on a recent Sunday night after dinner elsewhere, for drinks and dessert. I'm eager to return and try a few more menu items. Highly recommended. And yeah, you'll probably spend a few bucks.

We came to this restaurant with high hopes and were really looking forward to dining here. What a disappointment! The food is mediocre at best, the service terrible and the owner is completely disinterested in ensuring a great dining experience for all of his customers. Not sure how this place stays in business or if it will make it in the long run. We visit Door County at least once a year, but we will not be coming back. There are so many other great restaurants. Skip this place!

My husbands Bam Bam Chicken (supposed to be their specialty) was horrible-tasted like burnt peanut shells! But everything else the rest of us got was awesome!
